Cold And Flu
No one has any fun when a child has a cold or the flu. But there are several things you can do to help keep them from getting sick in the first place.

Germs
Teach your child to wash their hands correctly and have them do it often. This is one of the best ways to avoid the spread of germs and viruses. If you or your child is sick, make sure others in your household don't use the same towels, silverware, cups, etc. Have your child cover their mouth and nose when they sneeze or cough. Then, have them wash their hands again. Remind your child not to touch their nose, eyes or mouth. Talk to your doctor about whether your child should get a flu shot this year.

Feeling Better
If your child gets sick, you can help them get better and feel better faster. Get a cool-mist dehumidifier to help with a congested nose and chest. Have them drink lots of fluids. Water, juices, or electrolyte replacement solutions, like Pedialyte. Over the counter products don't provide a cure, but ibuprofen in recommended doses can help with fever and aches. Your child should get plenty of rest while they're sick.

Watch For These Signs
A fever of 102.5 degrees, difficulty breathing and extreme tiredness could mean a more serious illness. Call your doctor if these symptoms concern you.
