Helicopter Crashes in Kalamazoo County; Pilot Is Dead
Police Say Helicopter Was Just Purchased Thursday

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A pilot is dead after his helicopter crashed into a field in Kalamazoo County.

It happened shortly before noon.

The helicopter went down in the 'Chipman Preserve' which is off East Main Street in Comstock Township.

A witness reported hearing the helicopter's engine quit and then heard it crash into a wooded area.

The pilot, Comstock Township Resident, Larry Boven, 68.

Boven was the owner of the helicopter and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Boven had several years of flying experience but had only purchased the helicopter Thursday.

The FAA is investigating.
