EAST GRAND RAPIDS —
City leaders in East Grand Rapids getting a first look at a $98 million expansion at Blodgett hospital.
It will take place over the next 3 years but first it has to pass city approval.
The emphasis is "newer with bigger rooms." A 125,00 square foot, 5 story addition will house 120 patient rooms along with new operating rooms.
According to Blodgett President, Jim Wilson, there hasn't been any construction at the hospital since the mid 1970s.
They've already had 3 meetings with neighbors, who have some concerns about an undertaking like this in the middle of their neighborhood.
Many are worried about an increase in traffic and how it will impact their property.
So they've taken their comments into account when designing things like landscaping. So far, East Grand Rapids leaders are positive about the plans. The first public meeting where people will get a chance to learn more about the project will take place at the next planning commission meeting on March 11th. After that, Spectrum is hoping to get the approval process wrapped up in 3 months.
